In conjunction with its 2019 observance of the International Year of Indigenous Languages, the LSA is pleased to announce the formation of a new section of its flagship journal Language.  The new section, to be edited by Colleen Fitzgerald (Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi), will focus on Language Revitalization and Documentation. It is expected to begin accepting submissions during the first half of 2020. The new section is an outgrowth of the LSA’s Statement on Evaluation of Language Documentation for Hiring, Tenure, and Promotion (2017), the Resolution on Recognizing the Scholarly Merit of Language Documentation (2010) and Statement on The Need for the Documentation of Linguistic Diversity (1994). In drafting these  statements and resolutions, it became clear that the LSA should formalize its existing commitment to publishing such work alongside the other types of articles that appear in Language. Look for further details about the types of submissions the section editor will consider early next year.
