The LSA is honored to announce that the family of LSA member Elizabeth Dayton, PhD, who passed away earlier this year, has endowed a new travel award for graduate students pursuing a specialization in sociolinguistics to attend the LSA Annual Meeting. The endowment gift of $25,000, from Patricia and Chris Adelmann, will generate earnings to cover registration, travel, lodging and per diem costs for an LSA student member to attend the meeting. The Elizabeth Dayton Award will be capped at the amount of earnings over the prior 12-month period. Graduate students applying for the award shall:

  • be enrolled in a course of studies with a specialization in sociolinguistics; and
  • demonstrate a distinguished level of scholastic achievement.

The first award will be made at the LSA's 2020 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA.

The LSA welcomes charitable donations and bequests in honor of family, friends and colleagues throughout the year. Donors can learn more about these and other options here.
