The LSA is delighted to announce the publication of a new volume of the Proceedings of the Linguistic Society of America, one of the LSA's suite of open-access publications, which include peer-reviewed journals, proceedings, archived publications and more.

This is a periodical publication of the LSA containing articles developed from talks and posters presented at its Annual Meeting, which since 1924 has been one of the premier gatherings of researchers from America and around the world working on issues in linguistics and language sciences, representing a wide range of theoretical and methodological perspectives.

Volume 3 of the Proceedings currently contains 60 articles based on research presented at the 2018 Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah. Some highlights include:

Naomi Enzinna’s The influence of language background and exposure on phonetic accommodation examines the factors influencing speech accommodation, concluding that both language background and long-term exposure to monolingual or bilingual speech in a speaker’s speech community influence accommodation.

Linguistics and race: An interdisciplinary approach towards an LSA statement on race by Hudley et al. works toward a formal framework for studying race in linguistics through interdisciplinary comparison with flagship organizations in related disciplines and scholarly introspection among a diverse group of linguists and language scientists.

Karlos Arregi and Asia Pietraszko’s paper Generalized head movement argues for a unified account of head movement and lowering in which lowering is in essence the covert movement counterpart of head movement, predicting that lowering can feed head movement and give the appearance of long head movement.
