The LSA  has recently been informed that Arthur Abramson, a Life Memeber of the LSA who first joined in 1956 and a former President of the LSA (1983), has passed away. Yale's Haskins Laboratories has prepared the following obituary:

********************************

It is with great sadness we announce the death of our long-time friend and colleague, Arthur Abramson who passed away this weekend at Hartford Hospital. Arthur was a Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at the University of Connecticut, where he was the founding chair. He has been a part of the research staff in multiple capacities at Haskins Laboratories since 1959, most recently Emeritus Senior Scientist and member of the Board of Directors. His research and scholarly contributions to experimental phonetics, the production and perception of speech, laryngeal control in consonants, and Southeast Asian languages are well known internationally. Arthur was a critical thinker, and exceptional colleague and mentor and a true gentleman. He will be sorely missed.
