Congratulations to Joseph E. Aoun, current President of Northeastern University and long-time LSA member, who has been recognized by the Carnegie Corporation of New York with an Academic Leadership Award. In the Carnegie Corporation's statement, they recognize Aoun for "his initiatives that provide students with real-world experiential learning opportunities. They include a global co-op program, interdisciplinary research, and study abroad and service programs, with a network of 3,300 corporate and NGO partners in 136 countries and seven continents."

The Academic Leadership Award recognizes university leaders who demonstrate a strong commitment to quality, diversity, curricular innovation, and community investment. The honor also consists of $500,000 in support for each winner's academic initiatives. 

Dr. Aoun received his PhD in linguistics and philosophy from MIT and advanced degrees from the University of Paris VIII and Saint Joseph University (Lebanon). He has received many honors and fellowships including induction as a Fellow of the LSA in 2011.
