The Hill newspaper is reporting that the Trump Administration's budget blueprint will call for the elimination of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), a significant source of federal support for linguistics and language research. This blueprint will be released early in the Trump administration with a more detailed request to follow in late March or April. The LSA is joining with the National Humanities Alliance to oppose this proposal.

While the Trump Administration has the power to frame the agenda, in the end, Congress will decide whether to appropriate funds for the NEH. In recent years, the Republican Congress has rejected similar proposals to eliminate funding for the Endowment.
