Get Involved
There are many opportunities for LSA members to get more involved in the activities of the Society:
Present Your Research
- Submit an article for publication in one of our journals.
- Submit an abstract for presentation at the LSA Annual Meeting or at one of the other meetings we support.
- Propose a workshop or course at the biennial Linguistic Institute
- Propose a webinar on a linguistic research topic of interest
- Submit an article for the Student Research Spotlight
- Propose a Minicourse for the LSA Annual Meeting
- Publicize your conference, grant, award, or another professional accomplishment.
Share Your Expertise
- Serve as a referee or peer reviewer for articles and abstracts submitted to LSA publications and conferences
- Volunteer as a Session Chair at the Annual Meeting
- Teach a course or organize a workshop at the Linguistic Institute or CoLang
- CELP Help project
- Share your thoughts in one of our blogs.
Mentoring and Professional Development
- Participate in the LSA's Distance Mentoring Facility
- Sign up as a Pop-Up Mentor or Mentee at the LSA Annual Meeting
- Suggest topics or speakers for future webinars
- Participate in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) project
- Nominate a colleague for an honor or award
Advocacy
- Propose a resolution on an issue of linguistic importance
- Help the LSA as we advocate for linguistic policy in a challenging political climate.
- Write your elected representatives in support of the National Endowment for the Humanities and other major linguistics funders under threat.
- Take action in support of the LSA's policy agenda.
- Subscribe to our policy alert list.
LSA Leadership and Service
- Join a committee or Special Interest Group
- Self-nominate for a leadership role on the Executive Committee, Chairing a Committee, or serving on an Editorial Board
- Start a new special interest group
- Vote in our regular elections for LSA leaders on other ballot issues.
- Serve as a Delegate or Liaison to a colleague organization
- Sign up to serve as a Student Ambassador for the LSA at your home institution
Other Opportunities
- Donate to, or request a book from, the LSA Book Exchange.
- Share your course materials in the Linguistic Academic Depository.
- Nominate a colleague for an award
- Students—volunteer 8 hours in exchange for complimentary registration
Connection
- Connect with other members focused on your research inquiry.
- Complete your LSA member profile (and become eligible for a prize drawing).
- Target LSA members with your job announcement using a staff-assisted search of the member directory.
Support the LSA
- Contact the LSA Secretariat with your ideas for a new program, service, resource or member benefit.
- Make a charitable donation to support student fellowships and other LSA programs.
- Consider the LSA in your estate planning.
