The Department of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages seeks a tenure-track Professor of Arabic at either the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, to begin in fall 2018. The candidate is expected to have superior language proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and native or near-native proficiency in at least one Arabic dialect. The ideal candidate will pursue research in Arabic language, culture, or literature. Possible specialization areas include Teaching Arabic as a Second/Foreign language, heritage language acquisition and teaching, Arabic linguistics, modern Arabic literature and culture, and cultural studies. The successful candidate should have a proven track record of language instruction and curriculum design that is grounded in the tenets of communicative language teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research and teach courses in Arabic language and culture at the undergraduate level. We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate strong potential to direct an Arabic language program and successfully lead its growth. A Ph.D. in Linguistics, Arabic Studies, Middle Eastern Studies or a related field should be in-hand at the start of the appointment. Review begins 10/30/2017.
