The Department of Linguistics at the University of Rochester welcomes applicants for a tenure track faculty position. The appointment begins July 1, 2019. The position is open rank, with a preference for candidates at the level of Associate Professor. Strong junior candidates, with Ph.D. in hand, will also be considered. The opening is in the area of Syntax, though exceptionally strong candidates in closely related fields may be considered.

Applicants must have a record of excellence in both teaching and research. The most successful applicants will have solid expertise in formal theory coupled with a strong empirical and/or computational orientation, employing empirical or computational methodologies to examine data and topics in contemporary issues in linguistics.

A Ph.D. in Linguistics or in another closely-related area is required; however, a candidate should be able to teach core linguistics courses in a vigorous undergraduate program and to contribute to Masters and PhD programs in Linguistics grounded in cross-disciplinary, collaborative work, and incorporating contemporary issues and practices.

For fullest consideration, a completed application should be submitted by 3 December 2018.

The University of Rochester, an Equal Opportunity Employer, has a strong commitment to diversity and actively encourages applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in higher education.
