June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month! Join the Linguistic Society of America's Committee of LGBTQIA+ Issues in Linguistics (COZIL) for a Wikipedia edit-a-thon to celebrate queerness in linguistics and make that information more widely available to the world. Wikipedia articles are the top search results for most topics, and yet many of these articles are incomplete, out of date, have few or no citations, or don't mention active research efforts. Academics can use their access to university libraries and training with scholarly sources to improve public knowledge of important concepts related to gender and sexuality. Queer folks interested in linguistics can bring a queer perspective to linguistics and a linguistic perspective to queerness.

The Edit-a-Thon is sponsored by the Committee on LGBTQ+[Z] Issues in Linguistics (COZIL), and will be organized as a Zoom event, open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (US Eastern Time) on June 12th to allow participants from different time zones to join in and work as part of a virtual community. Experienced Wiki editors will be available during this entire period to answer questions, help troubleshoot and help new editors get started. If you can't join on the 12th for the synchronous Edit-a-thon, you can still participate! Log in here to have your edits tracked throughout all of Pride Month!

To register for the Edit-a-Thon on June 12th, click the red "Register for meeting" event at the top of this page and follow the prompts. If you're an LSA member, log in to the LSA website first to make sure your registration information is prepopulated. After you register, we will contact you with some tips about how to prepare for the Edit-a-Thon and a join link for the Zoom meeting.
