This (Time) in Linguistics History: Archive
In February 2017, the LSA launched a new feature, “This (time) in Linguistics History” to be published on a periodic basis via the LSA website. We invited LSA members to submit their ideas and contributions for future history features. The feature is coordinated by LSA Archivist Brian Joseph, in consultation with the LSA Secretariat.
- Our first feature, in recognition of Black History Month 2017, recognized Lorenzo Dow Turner
- Our second feature, in honor of Women's History Month 2017, recognized Adelaide Hahn
- Our third feature, in honor of the 150th anniversary of the publication of William Dwight Whitney's Language and the Study of Language
- Our fourth feature, a 50th anniversary tribute to Eric H. Lenneberg’s Biological Foundations of Language
- Our fifth feature, a reminiscence from former LSA Associate Secretary John Hammer about the Secretariats transition From Volunteer Leadership to Professional Staffing in the late1960s
- Our sixth feature, in honor of Black History Month 2018, recognizes Mark Hanna Watkins
The trigger event for this periodic feature could be an important day, week, month or year in the history of the LSA and/or the field of Linguistics. We are happy to publish as many features as often as LSA members are willing to contribute. Please submit your ideas via e-mail to Brian Joseph or Alyson Reed.
As new features are published, a compendium of links will be provided below.
