The North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad (NACLO) is an annual event that brings together high school students to compete in solving linguistic problems and puzzles.

Thousands of students compete each year at sites across the UnitNACLO logoed States and Canada; the top finishers are selected to represent the US and Canada at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL). No linguistics background is required to participate, and questions are drawn from all fields of linguistics, in addition to computational linguistics.

Registration for NACLO typically opens in the fall, with competitions being held in January and March of the following year.

The LSA has long been a sponsor and financial supporter of NACLO, and as of 2015, the LSA is pleased to enter into a closer relationship with NACLO that will allow for greater collaboration in organizing and promoting NACLO events. This new affiliation will help to increase interest and participation in linguistics at the pre-college level.
