What is your background in linguistics?
I took a linguistics course at the University of Maryland my freshman year of undergrad and I absolutely loved it. It was one of my favorite college courses.
How did you end up working for the LSA?
I found the position listing on a business events association website and applied. It looked like a great opportunity and I loved everything I learned about LSA during my interview.
What things are you looking forward to you in your work with the LSA?
There are many things I am looking forward to. I am looking forward to meeting the attendees, learning more about linguistics and experiencing the Annual Meeting, and helping it evolve.
What do you see as the biggest challenges facing the LSA?
It is only my second week and I am still learning a lot about LSA and the Annual Meeting. Based on what I learned, I think the biggest challenge I foresee for LSA, which is the same for many associations in the current climate, is navigating events following two years of a lot of change and a future of unknowns. The pandemic has had a major impact on the way events look and will look and everything is still very fluid and changing.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I love going on-site and seeing the event come to life and I love to see people connecting. It really is magical and very rewarding.
What’s the one thing you would most like LSA members to know about you or the work you do?
I am passionate about creating must-attend events and customizing the events for the attendees. I really do value the importance of getting to know the meeting, the members, the attendees and helping create the event they need.
