The LSA's Linguistics Beyond Academia Special Interest Group will kick off the first-ever virtual summer “boot camp” in July 2021 that focuses exclusively on career training for linguists. The Linguistics Career Launch (LCL) is a four-week series of professional development programming, courses, talks, workshops, and events designed for linguists who want to pursue work outside of academia. Registration opens May 10, 2021.

The LCL will include:

  • Company profiles: presentation/discussion focusing on a specific company
  • Career Expo: a virtual exhibit hall for sponsors, allowing conversations with attendees
  • Career mixers: informal networking with career linguists, sponsors, and fellow students
  • Career profiles: linguists will share their career arcs, both general and industry/sector specific
  • Courses and workshops: interactive learning focusing on a specific industry-related skill set
  • Mentoring and/or office hours: advanced sign up and/or pop up

The LCL is open to undergraduates as well as graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and alums — in short, any linguists who are curious about careers beyond academia in tech, industry, not-for-profit, and government.

Sponsorships of this event are available. Sponsors will have a unique opportunity to meet, interview, and even recruit linguists from a wide range of specialist areas. Sponsors will have a chance to promote your organization to highly motivated linguists who are actively seeking jobs in industry.
