The Best of Language

The LSA has collected a select set of papers that have been deemed to represent the best articles published in Language throughout its history.  The selections were based on readership and citation data, polling of the LSA membership, and the judgement of an ad-hoc committee of current and former Editors of Language. Please see below for the articles and more details.

Please note: All posted hyperlinks to articles included in each volume will lead readers to the Language archives available via JSTOR and/or Project MUSE (beginning in 2001). Users without access to these services may rent or purchase individual articles, or participate in the "Register and Read" program of JSTOR, which provides free access on a time-limited basis to those who complete a registration form. LSA members have free access to all Language articles from 2001-present via Project MUSE.
