"A Creole Solution for Haiti’s Woes", an op-ed by Michel DeGraff and Molly Ruggles, was recently printed in the August 2, 2014 issue of The New York Times.

In the op-ed, DeGraff and Ruggles argue for the importance of including Haitian Creole in the Haitian education system and supporting its use in scientific and other official communications. "Creole", they write, "holds the potential to democratize knowledge, and thus liberate the masses from extreme poverty."

Michel DeGraff is a professor of linguistics at MIT and a leading figure of the MIT-Haiti Initiative; Molly Ruggles is a senior educational technology consultant at MIT's Office of Educational Innovation and Technology.
